FAQS

Can I install this myself or do I have to pay a licensed contractor to install it?

Most manufacturers won’t honor a warranty of a product that has been installed by an individual homeowner. However, the Moisture Medic™ crawl space dehumidifier warranty proudly covers both an individual installation or a professional one. Whether you’re doing a crawl space encapsulation or using it in a basement, it can be installed by you or a licensed contractor.

What size dehumidifier do I need?

As with most things, there are many variables that go in to what size crawl space dehumidifier you should use. Using generalities, the recommending sizing per square foot is:

Size Dehumidifier Minimum Square feet Maximum Square Feet
70 1200 1800
90 1800 2500
130 2500 3500

If you feel like you are in between sizes you can add a fan pack to help circulate the air throughout the crawl space.

How often do I need to change the filter?

After initial installation, you should allow 6 weeks for the unit to run. After 6 weeks, it is recommended that you check your filter. If it’s clean, check again monthly. After the first cleaning you will be able to determine if you should check within a shorter or longer period of time. This all depends on how dirty the filter was during the first change. Each crawl space is going to be unique in how often the filter of a dehumidifier has to be changed.

Does my crawl space have to be encapsulated to put in a dehumidifier?

No, the Moisture Medic™ dehumidifier is designed to run independently to control the humidity in your crawl space.

However, think of your crawl space as a room in your home you’re trying to keep warm during the winter. If you crack a window, the cold air will come in. Your heater will run, and attempt to keep the room warm, but will have a lot of strain put on it because of the unstable environment. A crawl space is no different. In order to get the most out of your investment and have your dehumidifier last its full lifetime, a full crawl space encapsulation is the best option.

Did you know?

There are three major liabilities to a humid crawl space:

damage

Having too much moisture under your home will cause wooden floors to buckle, ruin insulation, and may even damage the foundation.

odor

Most people know the smell of mold and mildew, but there are many toxic gasses that come from the ground that you cannot smell. These toxic gasses can build up over time and creep into your home.

health risk

Mold and bacteria thrive in a moist and dark environment. The spores from this bacteria can easily travel up through your home’s ventilation system and affect everyone.
